Harvest

Happy Fall! The second grade team is looking forward to seeing all of you on October 25th. The children are getting excited about our harvest supper. We are hoping for a really good turn out! We will have good food, students work on display and a video slide show of what we have been working on so far this year, especially our visit to the farm. Please call Mrs. Wagnor and let her know you will be coming and what you will be bringing. Our classroom is in charge of salads, veggies, and appetizers. I think we already have enough bread items. Enjoy this beautiful New England fall weekend and see you all next Wednesday night!

Information You May Need!

We are moving right along in second grade! All the students seem to have settled in. On Monday, you may have noticed, I sent the homework for the week home. This helps some families with their schedules. In fall and spring there are many sports and other activities that take place after school and I try to be as flexible as possible to accommodate the needs of families. It is the intention that students do the nightly assignments and turn them in daily but if need be there is flexibility!
Reading folders will be coming soon. The reading should be about 20 minutes and fairly easy for the student to read. The purpose is to increase fluency. If it is to easy/hard, please let me know and I will adjust their program. Also the reading is one piece of the homework they must complete each night because it needs your signature. The folder comes back to school and it is recorded and a new book/chapter assigned.
I am in need of some classroom volunteers. If you have the time, let me know. I have also created an e-mail list so if you did not get an e-mail from me, it is probably because I don't have your e-mail. Please send me one through the school web site.
If you would like to help our classroom but you can't volunteer, there is a wish list on my home page. Also disinfecting wipes, kleenex and zip lock bags with the zippers would be appreciated. Don't hesitate to e-mail or call if you have any questions.

Have a great day!

Oh My Gosh!!!

The end of the year is coming and so much more to do and finish. We had a wonderful time on the field trip yesterday. It is very informative for the students and I always learn something new. I saw lots of cameras taking pictures....Any pictures you may have of the year would be greatly appreciated. You can e-mail them, put them on a disk or send hard copies. We are in the process of making a memory book for the year.
I like to take this last chance to wish all my military families all the best in your move and in your new home. You all give a lot for all of us and I want you to know how I personally appreciate all the sacrifices you make as families.
To all my second grade parents, thank you for trusting me with your children. They have grown and learned so much this year and are ready to move on to third grade. Likewise with each group of second graders I learn too!
Have a wonderful summer and I hope those of you still in Jamestown will stop in to see me once in awhile.
All my best,
Mrs. Goodyear

Happy Spring!

I think spring is finally here. Tonight your child will be bringing home a permission slip for our field trip on Friday. I'd love to have as many parents that want to come join us. Don't worry if you can't, there will be several other opportunities. Please mark next Wed., May 4th on your calendars. The students will be presenting their projects on China to you. They will make their own official invites to you this week. The presentations will be from 1:30 to 2:15. We hope you will be able to stop by and see them.
We will be starting the weather unit this week and using the data that we have kept all year. It is awesome that we now have a projector and they can watch the weather live on Turnto10.com.
We will also start the farm unit after our China presentations. We are right on schedule for math and the 6 traits of writing. I can't believe this is our last quarter in school! Have a good week!

I think spring is finally starting to give us hope with the few warm days we have had. The students have finished the science unit and a new one on weather will be coming. We have been keeping weather data since September and right now there is much in the papers and news. Please save any papers, magazines or articles and send them into school.

During the next month we will be studying about China and other Asian countries. We will learn about the geography, climate the people and their culture. We have a mini museum set up in the room in case anyone would like to add to it. The students will have a project due the week before vacation so you will be hearing about that soon!

This week the students will be taking the Unit 7 math assessment and the science assessment on solid and liquids.

We are learning 2 new cursive letters each week so by the end of the year they will know all the lower case letters.

I know with the good weather coming it is hard to get the reading completed each night but it is important that they keep reading and don't forget to sign the sheet. It costs them 5 minutes of recess if they forget to have you sign their form. ;(

We are writing and reading and working hard each day! Have a good week!

Snow, Snow and More Snow!!!

I am so glad to be back to school! We are moving right along and working very hard. We are continuing spelling with a new lesson each week. The homework assignments are in the packets sent home on the first day of the school week. Almost each morning we do a daily language activity. Students are expected to proof read and correct all their work before handing it in. Our social studies unit concluded with the map reading activities. Our next unit will be about China. Please look for anything we can put in a classroom museum. We have started the science unit "Liquid and Solids". This unit is always lots of fun. In math we will finish unit 5 by the end of the week...hoping we don't have a snow day. Stay safe and warm and enjoy all the winter activities.
